Brooklyn Brewery Collaboration

Williams Bros. & Brooklyn Brewery have had a long standing connection. Garrett Oliver is a regular visitor to the UK where he first started brewing & Bruce Williams lives in Brooklyn 3-4 months of the year, the two cross paths on many occasion & have become good friends so naturally the idea of a collaborative brew had been discussed over a few beers. And as fate would have it, Brooklyn production manager Jimmy Valm and Williams Bros. brewer Jamie Carmichael are also good friends from their days studying at Herriot Watt University, and i also enjoyed a few beers with Garrett during his Edinburgh visit this summer.

When the concept was discussed the idea was that the beer should be something Scottish as well as something Brooklyn. A Scotch Ale was a style that was decided on, using “a wee bit” of Scottish Honey, Treacle & Peated Malt, all brought together and fermented with a Brooklyn yeast to 4.8% alc, with 10% of proceeds being donated to the Red Cross charity.

On the sunny morning of the 19th of November we were joined here in Alloa by Brooklyn Production Manager Jimmy Valm & Brooklyn Brewer Kyle Wilson and we got to the brewing.

You will be able to get your lips around the first pints of “A Wee Bit” on cask this Saturday the 21st Dec at Inn Deep (Glasgow) and also at The Vintage (Edinburgh) next week.

The beer will also be going into kegs & bottles in early 2014.
